Some laptops have the function of disabling the touchpad / touch screen in the BIOS, it may also be a Windows issue, touchpad settings (I don't know what it's called in English Windows ;))

yeah we dont need a mouse. its just stupid if you touch the touch pad or the mouse and it moves around, pluss just, why make us play with one. maby add it as an opption, but dont force us to play with a mouse. also, I disabled my touch pad, and I dont even use anything relating to my physical computer. what i mean is, my computer is closed all the time and in another room while i use it with headpones and a keyboard. that's all I need

omg; so tipical blindy thinking. Just borrow a mouse or buy one for 10 dollar maximum. This is just the reason why most of the games that get released get the feedback it is all the same and typical an audiogame. Just because the mayorty of this comunity is scared to even tough a mouse or at least try it once.

I do have a wireless mouce next to my computer as well that sometimes my mom uses since we kinda share the same desktop, but yeah I do agree that laptop curser movement is kinda meh as you can, for example, accidentally go into an app when you meant to click or drag something

my keyboard doesn't have a numpad either, when I got this HP in 22 the keyboard I have came with these keys that sorta got mapped to different windows shortcuts ctrl+v, windows+f21, ctrl+windows+f21 ETC.) Although some computers when you use the power button have windows+f16, as for the game, I wonder if there are options where you can disable the numpad and map your own keys for firing and stuff that you'd want to use

If your touchpad has only one button, just like mine, then you unfortunately can't. For example the right side of my touchpad is right click, the left side is left click. You can't press them simultaneously since physically it's only one button.

-- (ferre):
Can't you use your touchpad to fire and map rotation to other keys because enter is already an alternitive to the right mouse button isn't it?

I have a wireless mouse. No extra USB usage.
Also, when you aren't using it, just turn it off. That's all.

-- (karmien):
As a blind windows user it makes literally no sense to have a mouse as it for the most parts has no advantages whatsoever. NVDA barely speaks mouse navigation, jaws (used to) don't have mouse support at all, it's just one more usb port taken or in case of mousepads, an accidental tab you do from time to time and make your cursor do crazy things while typing. You are just working with a target group that barely has or uses mouse so i will never get why some devs chose to rely on the mouse for their audio game.
-- (Adasadula):
I don't understand this trend among blind people, i.e. not having a mouse, hating games that use it, etc. ;).

Wtf? A pretty fine wireless mouse costs about 9 USD. If blind people have the money to buy halfly inaccessible handheld consoles and whatnot, a 9 USD mouse isn't going to hurt.

-- (karmien):
Most blind people i know have the mousepad on their laptops disabled though, for exactly this reason that i outlined, accidental cursor jumping and especially on cheaper laptops the hand palm recognition isn't there yet so i actually recomend people to disable it.
Plus 2k dollars minimum is a wild take, for example my hp workstation did cost a fraction of that and also lacks a mouse.
Yes, of course, if you don't live allone you should be able to bother a mouse from someone sighted. How ever, the smarter move would be to build your game so people don't need to bother stuff from other people to be able to play it. And the usual keyboards are not this limited that you neccessarely need it.

I just love the way your signature fits this message :D
Anyway a few years ago I had a very similar issue. At the end it turned out to be the fault of the laptop itself, it had some kind of sensor problems. It was a Dell inspiron something.

-- (thespyde):
For some reason the touch pad on my computer was disabled or maybe even disconnected internally, and this was done by the seller, not by me. I never disable stuff. I've tried removing and letting Windows reinstall it and that didn't work either. That's why I think it's been disconnected internally.

Uhh... Typical blindy, what to say here.

I mean hey.
To be fair you can't judge all of us by that standard.
It simply won't be worth it to buy a mouse for a game with stolen assets I'd never use for anything else. The game would need to be extremely enjoyable, plus, the option of just using a keyboard to play should be there, no question.
I love how blindies try hard to simulate mainstream games...

You actually need a mouse for a lot of things. When you need sighted help, do you expect your sighted relatives or friends to use the keyboard just like you do? When you are exploring an app and it works only with OCR, do you just say it's inaccessible and leave it that way, or do you actually try to look around with a mouse or the touchpad as well? I'm doing the latter. Well but again I'm not your typical blindy, since I had to get used to the way sighted people work.

I get why blind people don't have a mouse, and I think there should be alternatives. I don't get why they make a big deal out of getting one, or advancing their skills a little bit. Like, gaming with a mouse is the most comon thing for a sighted person. We can just as well take the advantages that come with a mouse, of course it is requiring adapting to it. And note, I have never plaid this game so maybe idk what I'm talking about, but yup, as arctic said. If you have inaccessible stuff or focus issues or relatives to help, it's certainly useful.

#54

I barely need sighted help, and if I do, it's on my laptop where they have a touchpad.
Thanks.
And if an app is only accessible via a mouse and you have no idea as to what you do, then yes, it's inaccessible. I don't use many apps like that, in fact I have computer use if I would.

Some of you are getting really emotional about this LOL. It's really funny.
All that I survey, I could easily destroy. From time to time, it is important to remind these small creatures of the true extent of my power.

and this discussion is all aboutmaximum 9 dollars while we all spend more on other spesific games such as mw r stw back when it was still up. I know 9 dollar is a lot for some people, but you still can borrow a mouse from a friend or familly member for a few hours to just try the game. Yes; they may should have a option to assign a control to firing with the keyboard, but the mouse makes your aiming not that limited since you have to turn full 360 degrees and move up or down when someone is above or below you.

My biggest problum with this issue is that the comunity just forces devs to keep repating the same thing. I've experienced my self while creating city of division. I really wanted to add mouse support, but other people in the dev team told me that it would be hard for a lot of players. They were right in the end, because I see that so much people just are anti mouse, resulting in less players on the game, which makes the game less intresting.

I love playing with the mouse. Like in swamp, trtr and radwinIsland.
It's so much better than fumbling around with the arrow keys.

#58

Thanks so much Arctic for starting to adopt the "Typical blindy" phrase. Now you see where I'm coming from when I use it. Seriously though, playing with a mouse can be a lot of fun, I remember my Swamp days and I really enjoyed it. I have the cheapest mouse and I could probably play this game, it's just that my desk is so crammed that if I wanna move my mouse around I'll have to move some cables around lol. You can get a mouse for less than 10 dollars, @Karmien at least had some valid arguments for actually not using a mouse, but owning one is totally different, sometimes it comes in handy. Both Aiden and Marchoffman epitomise the meaning of the phrase "typical blindy" in my honest and unfiltered opinion.
When you're stuck, just try harder.

#59

I told Atilla that if he added keyboard support and people couldn't compete, it is their fault not his.
I'd use it if added though, admittedly.

I don't hate a mouse either. And especially on mac, a mouse pad is indead usefull as it allowes you to use the iphone gestures which id on't wanna miss anymore, especially in these scenarios were i don't have 2 hands ready. How ever it's not a great idea to build a game on a market mostly of blind people, that don't use a mouse.
Oh and btw, which ocr works only with the mouse? Nvda ocr uses the mouse navigation but you an just map the mouse to what the ocr is saying with nvda+shift+m without any issue, actually this works better then fumbling with mouse following your self. Even on macos which is as said before much better with mouse navigation, VOCR (most known OCR solution) doesn't integrate the mouse but maps it's cursor to the mouse.
