Hello. Recently v l c media player is displaying something about privacy network and doesn't play. I uninstalled it, and went back to an older version of it, it plays now, but I still have that dialogue box. The trouble is that N V D A shows nothing of it. Any tips?

You yust have to accept by searchinv this button with TAB or the NVDA-cursor and activate it.

There are times when I wish I could have jaws again on this computer

Since I finally figured out how to use object navigation, I no longer miss JAWS, except for when I have to deal with my audio control panel. JAWS did read that window much better, clearer.

Well, yeah, and there are some edit boxes, where jaws reads the label, and NVDA not. I raised that issue on github, and I hupe something's being done about it in the near future. Also, braille representation in jaws is better too, but still, there are some huge advantages which NVDA has, I hardly ever use Jaws. Don't know what's up with your vlc there, but yeah, I also have problems ever since version 2.8 of the addon is out. I can't read the update dialog anymore.

The only thing I can say about Jaws is this: I only use it for the Norton anti-virus which I am forced to install because it comes with the Internet package that's provided by the Cabel company who delivers our Internet; and I use Jaws as a demo-version because it's the only screen reader which you can use for Norton anti-virus. Other than that, it's all NVDA here.
Concerning VLC player, I can't say much, if anythihg at all. I never use it. I still stick with Winamp.

Just waying in the sidenote concerning jaws. I do miss it sometimes. Haven't quite figured out object navigation. In any case I haven't used the player mentioned. Hope you will find a solution.

Well, all I found about "Object Navigation" is that you can check or uncheck a couple of checkboxes. To do this, press the NVDA key or the insert key and arrow down to preferences and press enter; then press enter on settings and arrow down to "Object Presentation and then use the tab key to check or uncheck whatever you prefer and tab to the apply button and press enter then to the okay button and press enter.

well, what is object navigation anyways?
When you're stuck, just try harder.

It is a way to read portions of screens which don't read with the conventional system cursor, using NVDA

And, to weigh in on this topic, I'm now using VLC Media Player, the latest version and I'm not having any issue with it, other than it isn't as accessible as Winamp, which I had to stop using due to it becoming hugely slow on my PC for some reason. I'm also using the NVDA add-on for VLC, and that's working fine as well.

I find that Winamp is not slow on my computer. Of course, it depends for what you are using Winamp. I mostly use it for listening to radio stations.

#14

It could possibly also depend on your version of windows. I tryed it on win 7 and it worked flawlessly. Have yet to try it on 10 though.
I sometimes speak words, and sometimes those words make sense. If this post by some miracle happens to fit the latter category, let me know.

I am using Windows 10 and no problem here. Of course, as I said, it depends what you are doing with Winamp.

#16

I used it for a long time, even with win 10, and had no problems with Winamp. Recently, though, it became very sluggish, taking three to four minutes to start playing a file or doing any operation at all, so VLC is my media player of choice now.

I never really used Winamp. VLC rocks, especially with the NVDA-Addon!

#18

I'm definitely glad about the NVDA add-on. Hey, if Winamp hadn't stopped working I'd still be using it, but there ya go.

The VLC Add On is a script which you install into the NVDA screen reader.
