new idea, this will probably break, but how about a public FTP?

hello everyone. Conner here. I have decided to, yet again, do something stupid. i'm sure everyone remembers anny audio, and the fact that you could make audio or share audio of any kind. I've created a public FTP server so people can do exactly that. you may share what ever. i am currently in the process, of making a request account so that you may request EXE files to me. this is to in sure that i don't get any bad softwhere on this FTP. it should also be noted that if something is worthy of being removed, i shouldn't half to get in to this, but if something needs to be removed, me or one of my admins will remove it. But with out further a do, the information is below.

how is a public ftp going to replace anyaudio in any way? and this is just all around a very stupid idea.

Nope, when I connected yesterday it's been normal ftp. If file zilla FTP server is being used here, it doesn't take much to generate an SSL cert.

Couldn't he just use Let's Encrypt to get an SSL cert and point his server at it, rather than go self-signed?

I would somewhat agree with URH in this specific thing, as you can't achieve the same thing with an FTP as you can with a website with separate accounts and whatever else anyaudio had that this doesn't. For example, you can't tell how big the file is, and you can't tell who uploaded what as it all uses one guest account.

yeah conner is probably just bored and he decided to make this, i would ignore it if i were you, plus this is nothing more than a normal ftp anyway.

I'd suggest that you do some kind of account request thing through your website or something. Everyone having their own account, as a previous poster already mentioned, provides a much better way for you to keep an eye on who is uploading files and such. Also, make a space on your website, or maybe a separate site, for people to upload stuff if they so desire. Give people the option of both HTTP and FTP.

i should have updated this yesterday, but i fell asleep. as for now, this survice is down. i made my server linux now, not only for the simplicity, but because the resources on my server arn't qwite adiqwit for windows OS, and there for, i like linux a bit better. how ever, it has its draw backs. i can't, as of now, figure out how to make seperate accounts for this FTP that SSh set up for me wich is qwite nice actually, but as of now, if i gave current account details, you guys would be getting access, full access might i mind you, to my home dir. wich, i'm not stupid, and that being said doing this is a bad idea. i'm currently in the process of finding out how to make seperate accounts for spasific folder access, so i can make this work. any files uploaded, did not transfer over, and i'm sorry for that. my external drive failed, and i'm trying to have it fixed by a friend. if or when this thing comes back up, i'll keep you guys updated.
