Hi guys, this is a thread all about music. Here, we can talk about the music we like and if we play any instruments. I like various kinds of music, including jazz, classic and more unusual things like the music in pure intonation album by Michael Harrison. I am very open minded when it comes to music, and I give anything a listen. As far as the instruments I can play, there's the piano. So, I can kind of play any instrument with a piano keyboard such as organ, harpsichord or accordion. But I also had lessons on the accordion as well as on the piano for almost 11 years, so, I can play them quite well. I also play the harp and the mouth-organ. I didn't have any lessons in any of those, but I can play them by teaching myself. As for the harp, I'm sure I'm definitely not playing with the right technique, but it works for me, and that's the most important thing, right? Anyway, further going, I also play the recorder, in short, I play quite a variety of instruments. I can read notes, too, but, at the moment, its easier for me to hear and then play it rather than reading it. So, that's it for me for now, I'm very curious what your opinion for this is. Have a great time on here.
I play keyboards and some strings. I used to be able to strum rhythm on the guitar, but I injured the flexor tendon in my left middle finger, thus my endurance is, shall we say, handicapped. I can only play for about five minutes or so, then a nerve starts screaming in that finger. I had surgery on it so yeah.
Anything goes musically for me as long as it makes musical sense, that's relative I know, but most importantly it has to be melodic for me to really like it. Lyrics are, of course, important as well.
Chromatics? Hmm, not sure I know what that is. I don't like much discord, however, having said that, certain chords, when mixed together, make for interesting sound.
Ok, I can't describe it, but a composer who made some songs using that kind of music is Arnolt Schönberg. It is horrible, it sounds like someone's just pressing random stuff on a piano.
As for the 12 tone music, I listened to it again, and it isn't as bad as I thought. Actually, there are two types of this kind of music, one is called successive and the other is called simultan. It turns out that only the simultan is very bad, where as the successive is ok to listen to, but it still sounds very foreign. That piece you mentioned sounds very interesting. Do you know what its called?
I really love it when classical pieces are played in historical tunings, especially when Bach is played in the pythagorean tuning, I absolutely love how that sounds.
cool i like dance music, techno, mashup mixes is where you have a song and mixed up with another artest. mashup mixes a cool. i love them. lol i want to try and completely fill my hard-drive with mashup mixes instead of my favourite downloaded and cd music
I love a lot of different music as long as it isn't dance music and has a good melody. I used to play different kinds of flute, everything from recorder to traverse flute to ocarina. I also used to play guitar and piano. Since my stroke, I can't use my left hand for playing any more, so all I can do is sing or play the melodica.
As for twelve tone music, I don't like it, but my former choir director once told me Schönberg is quite good, so I guess I'll have a go at his stuff some time.
Lol, good one. Although some earlier forms of dance music were a lot more melodical. Although what comes out these days isn't that interesting, music itself has changed a lot. I guess that's how music works.
