What do you like the most about being blind? And what do you hate the most?

I know blind people who can and do ride horses. Hey, I wouldn't attempt it, especially by myself, but I have ridden with sighted help.

Nono, I'm not saying it's not possible, it's possible but with limitations.

Well, you put it in the same context as driving, and that's definitely not possible as a blind person. I don't think I'd even trust a self-driving car.

There is nothing particular to like or enjoy. It's simply the life for me, since I was blind since birth. As for hating, I don't hate the fact that I am blind, because I don't know how it feels to be sighted, but I hat when I am forced into a situation where my blindness is an obvious barrier. Hate is perhaps a strong word, but I definitely dislike it greatly.
I may be blind, but I do not trust blindly, you see? :D

Riding horses is actually way safer for a blind person than riding a bicycle. A horse is a living animal, it won't stray to somewhere where its own life is in danger. Horses are not stupid.

I agree totally, though I did ride a bike for quite awhile. I only got one or two minor injuries. I got zero injuries on a horse, so yeah.

Did you do drive a bicycle or horseriding? Share your experience!

When I was much younger I rode a bike. I stayed on the sidewalk where I was really familiar with various landmarks. My judgment was really good too. I could tell how far I was away from obstacles and my reaction time was quite good.

I've also ridden horses, but I've never attempted that without sighted help.

Describing my two injuries from bike riding is probably beyond the scope of this topic, as is this post most likely.

I did both, but I felt much safer on the back of a horse. I trusted the animal's instincts far more than my own poorer ones. :D
Alas, there are very few horses where I live now, and they belong almost exclusively to local Gypsies.

Hi. Well, I don't mind being blind. Otherwize, I wasn't able to play guitar or read brail. I should also add that I wouldn't be able to skate. But I enjoy being blind, that happened when I was born.

Why would you not be able to play guitar if you were not blind? Or read Braille, for that matter?

No, I ment I woulden't have been able to read it. And as for guitar I could do it, but I would be just starting out.

I, like others in this thread, neither like or dislike my blindness as a whole. I deal with it the best I can. That said, I also hate that I can't just drive somewhere by myself. Oh, sure I could absolutely buy a car if I had good credit and the like, but I couldn't use it to go somewhere, or perhaps to just take a drive around the neighborhood for the pure hell of it.

Reading through this again, I have to say I was in a more positive phase of my life in 2024 for sure. And younger, I certainly relate much more to post 13 these days, especially considering parents making a show out of bullcrap like not being on time when they pick you up from sport or something. Oh well, and of course just my age. Sighted people in my age could literally get their drivers license at my current age, it's, frustrating to realise for sure. I wish so so so much that one day I'll somehow get the indepence to drive wherever I want, listening to whatever music I want on car speakers, alone. And if I have to buy a Tesla for that, I don't mind bro. But meh, looking at hhow that stuff is currently going, that'll take its 10 to 20 years for sure, especially in EU/Germany.

so I actually don’t have an issue with being blind because I’ve been blind my entire life however, there’s a tiny bit of vision in one of my eyes that I can cope with it freaks me out sometimes because my left eye is completely blank and the little bit of like glimpses of stuff I should say in my right eye are there and then they just go away after a while when my eye like flips over because they move a lot, but I think I’m on the same page with a lot of people I just wanna be able to drive I wanna be able to drive for three hours to pick up my brother every day instead I can’t. We have to do it twice a year because our parents don’t like long drives.

Since when can people get a drivers license at 17?

rudolf

They already can begin to train for one, and I believe even drive with someone in the passenger seat. In America you even can drive without suervision at 16 or something idk.
