The problem is not that you might not hear people around. Already the fact that you are wearing headphones in a company or next to a friend while you are talking to each other is disrespectful.

Who says I'm doing it in a company, though I mean, that's kinda my work, sitting in the office wearing headphones :p. Also should I annoy them with my TTS all the time, I think that's way more disrespectful to be honest.
If I'm sitting at dinner at a restaurant or hotel, and it's loud, I just wanna enjoy my food and hear some YouTube, I put my AirPods, adaptive mode so I don't hear the loud ambience but still enough of the things that happen around, and everything is good. Why should I fake listening/being aproachable when I'm not? Of course, when you meet with your friends to activly go and get food, and spend time together, it's a different thing. But then I signed up for the social time and talking with these specific people.

Also. the headphone or airpods thing would just show me that you don't care to talk so I wouldn't bother. If you do it mid convo then it's respectless yeh.

another one for me is people pretending my eating disorder is oblivious. don't ask me to eat something over and over again when i am very blunt about not being able to consume it. you look like a dick
The point is that when you're waring whatever in public and you're alone I shouldn't have to have someone walk to me and start yapping about how they were left with only 33 chips after their mom's sister's boyfriend's dog ate some because he just wanted to quote(try some) and the bag was full. You see I have headphones in, it's loud, please shut up. Your contribution to the noise gives me more of a reason to keep them on.
