@gallagher123123 Do you use Windows Using VM Ware on a Mac?

George, you do know that bootcamp is super duper outdated and doesn't run on any m chip macbook? We're already on m4, for the record.

yeah we have parallels but you have to pay for it. Just stick to vmware for mac or virtualbox.

Oh, you have to pay for that? Didn't know. Yeah if I hhad a Mac I'd probably try VMWare, thoughh I of course have no idea about the accessibility of that thing.

@22 I Didn't know that before but thanks. Just edited my post.

I want to get a mac at some point but don’t want to get a super old one so need to save up the money for it.

Ok so I thought about this more recently and somewhat changed my stance. I'll just paste a Mastodon post of mine below, actually.

So, lately, despite being in the Android ecosystem, I have thought about getting a MacBook m4 Air. It would be nice for using it when I'm outside the house for things like Discord, music production and maybe some lighter gaming. In general I could do more music producing when I'm outside, such as continuing working on things when I'm in the car (3 hours per day, after all).
Also, it would work out better than any windows laptop since of it's nature, the software is more streamlined with the hardware and it can utilize the performance way better than Windows ever could. Plus, no Windows bloadware.
What are y'all's thoughts?

I'd generally agree, it ain't too bad of an argument. Personally it's weird having an android phone and using a mac, because it's just waisted bennifits such as airdrop to say one example. Though I use my iPhone so much that maybe I'd just switch back to it as main at this point, it's more efficient for me.
I'm honestly not sure if music producing in the car is gonna work out well, and I'm as well not sure what you'd imagine under lighter gaming. There isn't much, as said before. If you just wanna do it because why not, I'd recommend you to look more into it than this, bro. Mac voiceover isn't just your cozy switch, it's different than windows and a mac is not your typical iOS phone either. I'm just saying, I bought it because I knew I really wanted it at that point, and I saw the bennifits over the months. Consider this well, especially as you're not the most fond of apple as I've understood it.

The m4 Macbook air, before I forget to say it, also only has 2 USB c ports and the charger on the left side, while on the right is the headphone plug. If you don't have one already and you actually you know you want this thing, get yourself a hub to connect to this.

Actually I can AirDrop between Pixel and Mac, thanks Google so yeah, I actually don't really see big issues with using Android while using a Mac.

I can say that I heavily considered it but didn't do it for the reasons Marc outlined in the post.

When did I say issues. I just say that the ecosystem is eventually gonna work out better, as with all companies.

Also honestly, the base model price is ok, but if you want more Ram and storage, and honestly you need to get 24 GB and 512 SSD at this point (what exactly related to music production will you do with 256 GB), it costs you a ton of money I personally for me don't see the worth in. Also I went to the store to check one out and for my taste the Air is actually not that Air anymore, they really got thicker over the years again, yes, more performance, and a taste thing over all, just not what I initially expected. And this kind of keyboard for 1.5k, idk.

Sorry bro. But I don't even see that at this point honestly. Like your 5GB Icloud won't help you either, and if you don't have a lot of other stuff like AirPods, I can't see it.

The configuration I have in mind costs about $1350, hence I asked.
I guess I'd just use my Pixel Buds for that anyway, it's the most compact solution. I don't intend to attach other devices apart of that just as not to have the need to rely on it.
As to the ecosystem argument, I personally don't think it's one to really think about because while Apple is quite closed in letting others in, I'm quite sure it will work out. For example, I don't do this notification mirroring thing on Windows either, my phone doesn't even know my Windows computer exists and vice versa. And my Pixel Buds are just normal headphones working over bluetooth.
You're right that VoiceOver probably is going to be a switch for it's own though, and that spending about $1400 for a device which I may be just using 3 hours per day and occasionally when I'm outside is somewhat questionable, as well as the thought how well music producing is possible in a car without MIDI-keyboard and with bluetooth headphones and which games I would be playing there. But per principle, I don't have any problem with Apple as I used to have. For me personally, Pixel just works out better at the moment, which, however, doesn't mean I would dislike a Mac automatically because of that.
But if I would go with it, it would be a quite interesting thing to do, both because the device itself supposedly is a great piece and because it would be interesting getting used to the workflow. It also would benefit me of getting to know the technical parts that come along, such as the OS, file system and generally how to develop on MacOS. Right now I am just hesitant because a, I know that this may just be a silly thought, but b the RAM shortage probably is going to put up the price sooner than later and even though this may be an instant purchase in a silly moment, it's in this situation actually better rather than needing to pay 200 bucks on top later.
If I had the certainty of the prices not going up for a while and a test device available, I definitely would use the time and possibility. However, right now it would be a shot into the blue, but I did that multiple times and never regreted it because I have a fast learning ability and hence a slow adjustment time, so it may be worth it trying it out. After all, I could still sell or return it, perhaps for a better price if the RAM shortage continues meanwhile.

You can set up windows as well without most of the bloatware, by including an auto-unattend file in your setup. You must configure it before setting up the OS but it works and it really takes no time. I'm saying most of the bloatware because simply if you delete a few of them, it might cause errors or instability. I can't attach my configuration because you need to partition your drives right there, and I don't want to damage your pc by giving you a configuration that might not work for you. I can give you the site with it can be done.

Right, but honestly there are tons of such things at this point, Tiny 11, Windows 11 LTSC, now this. Nice to have I guess, I use them myself and woulln't want to go back, but it's kinda off topic and at some point they don't really help. If I had to get a new more powerful device to work mobile which is not a phone, I don't know what it was, probably either a GPD Win, because they combine several things I'm interested in, or still a Mac, but I don't. I know that wouldn't be a generic Windows Laptop.

Oh this is kinda neat actually, thanks.
However, at the moment, I don't own a laptop with the required resources, so I think it generally would be make more sense if I hve to buy something regardless.

I possess a Macbook pro, and, I must say, it was hard for a while to get used to it, and I mainly use it for my hoobby, which has turned into a job, of digitising old 78 RPM discs and reel-to-reel tapes. But it can certainly be used for many things by a blind fellow, or indeed, a blind lady. :D
Web browsing is a bit harder, yes, but when one gets used to it, it is quite doable.
I may be blind, but I do not trust blindly, you see? :D
