Hey there.
So since this is an english forum, and most of us are not native english speakers, including me, so what's that one thing that you hate about English the most? The only real problem I have with English is spelling. Basically, in Serbian, my native language, and most of the other slovanian languages have a letter, and every letter has a tone / sound to it, and we basically just read those sounds for every individual letter. It's kinda difficult to explain this to people who don't know Serbian or any simular language like Russian or Pollish. Well either ways, in English that's not the case, and there are many diffirent rules which say how a word is pronounced and spelled. But there's another problem, and those are exceptions. Just when you thought you knew every single spelling rule out there, there's always those a few million words who just don't seem to follow any logic what so ever. Apart from that, it's actually one of my favorite languages.

Lol, I think that has to do with how the language developed. And now, it's even stil developing, so a few years down the line, there wil be more changes.

@ Ferrumite666, I agree. I have a good example, laugh. There's no single f in there! Why bother? Ok, here's something quite funny. There is an Anglicism someone came up with, and it's the following word: "ghoti". You probably would pronounce this literally, but it's actually pronounced "fish". Let me explain. "gh" comes from laugh, "o" from women and "TI" from words with the tion ending, like station. The only synth which is able to pronounce that is alex on the mac, however I could also teach Espeak how to say it without any dictionary of a screen reader.

Someone mentioned something, that I think is weird. I do live in the US, and English is my main language. Someone mentioned8 that some people drive on the parkway, and park on the driveway. And that you could make a sentence, just by saying police 8 times, because police has 2 meanings.
Off the spinner, to the skinner, it chops off layers, now I'm thinner.

Yeah, goti is George Bernard Shaw's doing. I learned it during my phonetics and phonology class.

What about knees and niece.

Hmm, two unrelated words. Knee is singular, knees is plural. Niece is singular, nieces is plural. Not sure what you mean.

Well it's also not quite the same, if you're as exact on pronunciation as I am.

thespyde

Indeed. That was my point as well.

That's true. But it sounds the same and for someone who is not too much familiar with this language, it can be confusing.

hozosch

Well no. "Knees" is with a voiced s sound, so a z if you will, and "niece" is with a voiceless s. Also, charles summed it up well in his first post. Ah well, never mind.

I like English, but there are many things that I do not like. although I understand that my language is much harder. In general, I do not like exceptions, not correct verbs, and words in the past form that you need to learn. from the main thing this is all. but I still like English very much.

I don't have that many problems with the language exactly. The only thing is the word, you. contextually it can be kind of confusing in certain situations.
